🧠 What it means

Ah yes. The Mexican solution to pretty much all life's problems. Scared? Échale huevos. Nervous? Échale huevos. Starting a business? Échale huevos. About to ask someone out? Échale huevos. Lost your job? Well… maybe cry a little bit first, then échale huevos. And yeah, huevos does indeed mean eggs... but that doesn't make much sense here, now does it! And that's because, in this chunk, huevos means balls (of the hairy kind 😉). So yeah, échale huevos means something like: 👉 put effort (into something) / give it your all / have some guts / keep fighting / go for it The important thing is that it's not just about effort. There's normally an element of courage, determination, grit, or resilience mixed in too. So yeah, depending on tone, it can sound encouraging… or like someone's telling you to stop being a wuss and just get on with it! 💡 Oh, and you'll also hear the WAY more family-friendly échale ganas. That's the one you need to use with everyone except your close friends / people you know are cool with stronger language.

🌪️ When to whip it out

When someone's going through a tough time and needs encouragement:

Sé que está difícil, pero échale huevos.
I know it's hard, but you've got this.
Ánimo, carnal. Échale huevos.
Keep your chin up, man. Stay strong.
No te rindas. Échale huevos.
Don't give up. Keep fighting.

When talking about effort and determination:

Si lo vas a hacer, échale huevos.
If you're going to do it, give it everything you've got.
Échale huevos al proyecto y vas a ver resultados.
Put everything into the project and you'll see results.
Ni modo, vamos a tener que echarle huevos si queremos pasar la materia.
Guess we'll have to bust our asses if we wanna pass that class.
Me da miedo, pero le voy a echar huevos.
I'm scared, but I'm gonna go for it anyway.
— ¡Échale huevos, papacito!
— Wey, no va a meter goles porque le grites a la tele…

— Come on, man, put some effort in!
— Dude, yelling at the TV isn't gonna make him score…

⚠️ Tone

✅ Extremely common all over Mexico.

✅ Usually positive and encouraging.

✅ Mildly vulgar (it's part of el huevo family after all).

✅ Usually fine with close friends, siblings, cousins, teammates, etc.

❌ Definitely NOT something you'd say during a formal job interview.
