Me pongo a + infinitive

(everyday chunks)
B2 (¡Nivelazo!)Used EVERYWHERE 🇲🇽Standard Spanish 😌

🧠 What it means

Ok, so this is another one that’s gonna make you sound WAY more native. You’ll hear it when someone’s about to dive into an activity, be it working, researching, cleaning, cooking, etc. It’s basically the Spanish equivalent of: 👉 I’ll start / I’m gonna start + verb in infinitive

🌪️ When to whip it out

Anytime you’re about to start doing something, especially something deliberate, focused, or effort-based:

Me pongo a estudiar después de la clase.
I’ll start studying after class.
Me pongo a hacer la cena.
I’m gonna start making dinner.
Me pongo a buscar boletos.
I’ll start looking for tickets.

You can also use it when talking about things you USUALLY DO:

Siempre me pongo a limpiar los domingos.
I usually clean on Sundays.
Después de la chamba, me pongo a entrenar.
I usually train after work.

⚠️ Tone

✅ Neutral and super common.
