¡Métete!

(survival chunks)
A2 (¡Vas bien!)Used EVERYWHERE 🇲🇽Standard Mexican Spanish 💀

🧠 What it means

This one's another super chunk! Yippee! 🎉 And it's basically what you say when you want someone to: 👉 Get in! / Get inside! So yeah, you'll be whipping it out whenever you want someone to get into a house, room, shower, swimming pool, etc. Oh, and it’s often said with a bit of urgency, especially when the person is right there and you want them to hurry up and get inside NOW!

🌪️ When to whip it out

Whenever you want to tell someone to get in or get inside:

¡Métete, está lloviendo!
Get inside, it’s raining!
¡Métete al agua, no pasa nada!
Get in the water, it’s fine!
¡Ya métete a bañar!
Go take a shower now!
¡Ándale, métete ya!
Come on, get in already!

It's also VERY common when telling dogs to get inside:

— Nacho, métete, métete, Nacho… ¡Nacho, métete ya!
— Nacho, inside, inside, Nacho... Nacho get inside right now!

Or when being told to squeeze onto the metro:

— ¡Métanse, métanse! Sí caben.
— Come on, get in! There’s room for all of you.

⚠️ Tone

✅ Very common in Mexican Spanish.

✅ Often said with a sprinkle of urgency.

THE single most common dog command in Mexico (though don't quote me on that).
