Primero Dios

(sayings & idioms)

🧠 What it means

So, this one’s just the Mexican way of saying: 👉 God willing You’ll hear it A LOT when people are talking about plans… it adds that extra touch of hope (and a sprinkle of humility). It’s a bit like saying, “Hopefully everything goes as planned… but it’s up to the Big Guy upstairs.” 🙏

🌪️ When to whip it out

When making plans with a touch of faith:

Mañana nos vemos, primero Dios.
We’ll see each other tomorrow, God willing.

When talking about future desires:

Este año que entra, primero Dios, voy a terminar la carrera.
Next year, God willing, I’ll finish my degree.

⚠️ Tone

✅ Warm and hopeful.

✅ Works with your abuela, your boss, or your gym buddy.

✅ Common in Mexico (and much of Latin America).

⚠️ Slightly religious undertone… some people use it out of habit, others mean it literally.
