This chunk is gonna make you sound WAY more native.
Promise. 😉
It’s a natural, super common way to say:
👉 I feel like…
👉 I want to…
So, instead of saying:
Quiero ir a bailar.I want to go dancing.
You can say:
Tengo ganas de ir a bailar.I feel like going dancing. / I’m in the mood to dance. 💃
And yeah, saying quiero ir is totally fine.
BUT in real-life Mexican Spanish, tener ganas de is way more expressive.
Erika 100% prefers it! 😉
💡 Oh, and you can also use it with nouns:
Tengo ganas de un helado.I want an ice cream. 🍦
🌪️ When to whip it out
Whenever you feel like doing something and want to sound natural AF:
Tengo ganas de salir hoy.
I feel like going out today.
No tengo ganas de estudiar.
I don’t feel like studying.
Tengo ganas de verte.
I want to see you.
⚠️ Tone
✅ Casual, friendly, and super natural.
✅ Great for talking about emotions and desire.
✅ More idiomatic than quiero (and WAY more expressive!).
