This one’s a
VERY typical and
VERY friendly Mexican sentence starter.
It’s a great one to whip out when you want to sound warm, charming, and polite!
It means:
👉
I’m glad that… / I’m happy that…
And yep, just like other emotional reactions,
me da gusto que is followed by the dreaded subjunctive.
💡 You can, of course, add
mucho or
muchísimo in there if you want to say you're
REALLY glad /
REALLY happy / etc.
Me da muchísimo gusto que te caiga bien.I’m really glad you like him/her.
👍 Rupert's totally unsolicited rule of thumbThe indicative states the fact. The subjunctive reacts to it.
Ya llegaste.You’re here.
Me da gusto que ya hayas llegado.I’m glad you’re here.Encontraste chamba. You found a job.
Me da gusto que hayas encontrado chamba.I’m glad you found a job.
