🧠 What it means
This is a great little chunk for when you’ve forgotten something!
And since I’m kind of olvidadizo (forgetful!) myself, I use this one pretty much every day.
It just means:
👉 I forgot
And that se at the beginning?
Well, it's called the accidental se, and it’s there to emphasize that it wasn’t on purpose.
Yep, you didn’t mean to forget. It just kinda… happened.
💡 You can think of this structure like a traffic light:
🔴 se = the red light = NEVER CHANGES
🟢 me / te / le / nos / les = the green light = changes depending on WHO FORGOT
🟡 olvidó / olvidaron = the yellow light = changes depending on HOW MANY THINGS YOU FORGOT
🌪️ When to whip it out
Whenever something’s completely slipped your mind: keys, names, dates, birthdays, etc.
¡Ay, se me olvidó tu cumpleaños!
Oh no, I forgot your birthday!
¡Se me olvidaron las llaves!
I forgot the keys!
¡Se me olvidó que me pediste el pan!
I forgot you asked me for the bread!
⚠️ Tone
✅ Totally neutral.
✅ VERY common in everyday convos.
✅ Great for softening the blame when you forget something.
